Plan for connection limits
Redis Cloud Essentials tops out at 10,000 connections, with smaller plans allowing fewer. Its plan-specific limits also cap throughput and bandwidth.

Render ties the connection budget to purchased memory. Its 1 GB plan supports 1,000 connections, while 10 GB supports 10,000. A small dataset with many connected clients can therefore need a larger memory plan. (Render compute plans)
Plan for capacity changes
A Render Key Value upgrade restarts the instance and causes roughly one to two minutes of unavailability. Render doesn’t support downgrading an existing instance in place. Plan application fallback and cache warming around the persistence mode you choose.
Redis Cloud Pro leaves capacity monitoring and scaling decisions with your team. The smoother resizing process does not remove the need to plan headroom.

Frequently asked questions
Do all Render Key Value instances run Valkey?
No. New instances use Valkey 8. Instances created before February 12, 2025 run Redis 6 and continue operating without feature-version upgrades. Render has also scheduled security patches for both Redis and Valkey, as documented on October 8, 2025.
Can I disable persistence on a paid Render instance?
Yes. Paid instances offer Journal + Snapshot, Snapshot only, and Off. Changing modes restarts the instance. Moving to or from Off loses all data, so reserve Off for data your application can repopulate.
How does private access work?
Private connectivity requires Pro. Render’s private Key Value access requires the application and cache to share a workspace and region.
How do their uptime commitments compare?
Redis Cloud offers a 99.999% uptime SLA. Render’s Key Value uptime percentage is unknown from its public pricing and service information.
