Drupal is a free and open-source content management framework built in PHP and is considered to be among the most stable, secure, and flexible content management solutions available. We are pleased to announce a new module intended to simplify one of the most critical components of highly performant websites and applications—caching. The Momento Cache Drupal integration removes the complexity of managing cache servers and clusters by providing truly serverless caching for your Drupal sites and applications.

Why Momento?

By default, Drupal uses a database—typically MySQL, MariaDB, or PostgreSQL—to cache the results of relatively expensive calculations. However, there is a problem with this approach: databases are, relatively speaking, slow. As a site’s need for scalability and performance increases, so do the advantages provided by a dedicated caching solution. Drupal has long offered integrations with two such solutions—Memcache and Redis—and we are proud to announce our Drupal integration module for Momento Cache.

While Memcache and Redis provide fast and reliable caching to maximize the performance of your site or application, their advantages come at a cost. To use either technology, you’ll need to spend considerable time and effort provisioning and configuring server instances or clusters suitable to your workload. As your site’s caching demands change over time, ensuring that the caching infrastructure is neither under- nor over-provisioned is critical to manage cost and performance. Momento Cache handles all of this for you, scaling automatically to handle fluctuations in demand. And, as we’ll see, all you need is a free API key to supercharge and future-proof your Drupal cache performance.

Using Momento’s Drupal Cache Module

So, exactly how easy is it to get up and running with Momento Cache in your Drupal installation? Detailed instructions are available in the module’s README, but the process boils down to:

  • Generate a Momento API key using the Momento Console
  • Install and enable the module in the usual Drupal way as documented in the README
  • Configure the module settings to suit your environment, also documented in the README

In short order your Drupal site or application will enjoy the performance boost that only a first-class caching back-end can provide. Compared to the server provisioning, configuration, and maintenance required by other highly performant solutions, we think you’ll agree that Momento Cache minimizes the cost and effort of providing low-latency caching and maximizes the time you have to spend on making your Drupal project excellent.
