Over the past four years, we’ve built a robust platform around Valkey to make hyperscale infrastructure fast, efficient, and easy. Global leaders like Coinbase, Snap, FOX, and Capcom trust Momento to build, deploy, and operate critical features for millions of users, powered by some of the largest Valkey clusters in the world.
Today, Momento’s product portfolio reflects how enterprises actually work with Valkey or Redis. Since we first started this journey with serverless caching, we’ve added various components tailored to common roles in enterprise architecture. This flexibility allows enterprises to mix and match our tech to deliver the best solution for infrastructure at scale.
For the engineer who needs the full power of Valkey
Valkey is the beating heart of the Momento platform. We offer multiple ways to use Valkey across any cloud, flexibly integrating our expertise into your architecture and operations.
Momento Valkey Image (MVI) – compare to Valkey docker image
Internally, our data nodes run a Valkey flavor optimized to handle >1M op/s on 8 ARM cores with 250 µs client-side p99 latency. We’ve also built in extras like observability and tiered SSD storage. The Momento Valkey flavor is available as a licensed container or machine image for use in self-managed clusters.
Momento Valkey Enterprise (MVE) – compare to Elasticache, Memorystore
Our managed Valkey service is the easiest way to operate Valkey in the cloud. The Momento control plane manages a multi-region fleet with thousands of instances, reliably handling upgrades, warming up nodes, monitoring capacity, and reconfiguring topologies. Managed Valkey is available both as standard SaaS and BYOC.
For the engineer who needs reliable hyperscale services
Momento pioneered the two-tier architecture for Redis to improve performance and reliability. Our gateway layer is generalized for use with any downstream service.
Momento Accelerator (MAX) – compare to AWS API Gateway, Varnish, HAProxy
Momento Accelerator is a hyperscale gateway router written in Rust that handles tens of millions of clients driving millions of RPS for production workloads. MAX delivers optimizations like connection pooling, request collapsing, response caching, throttling, compression, and more. MAX supports HTTPS and a variety of other protocols, as described below for service-specific integrations.
MAX Compute – compare to Lambda@Edge, Fastly Edge Compute
Extend Momento Accelerator with lightweight WASM micro-functions that execute in a secure, high-concurrency environment. Hooks include authentication, authorization, and request or response transformation. WASM functions can even be used to orchestrate requests to multiple downstream sources.
For the engineer who needs more from common data services
Momento Accelerator tightly integrates with specific underlying data services. MAX exposes a protocol- and API-compatible endpoint, transparently augmenting the underlying service with advanced capabilities!
MAX Valkey – compare to mcrouter, pgbouncer
MAX Valkey combines Momento Accelerator with Momento Valkey Enterprise. MAX Valkey makes hyperscale caching easy, with seamless scaling to millions of clients, tens of millions of op/s, and hundreds of terabytes of storage. MAX Valkey supports RESP, HTTP, and Memcached.
MAX S3 – compare to MediaStore, foyer
MAX S3 delivers transparent caching for S3. Formerly known as Momento Media Storage, MAX S3 ensures low-latency, cost-effective delivery of multi-MB assets, perfect for use cases such as live video origination or serving thumbnail images. MAX S3 supports HTTP.
MAX DynamoDB – compare to DynamoDB Accelerator
MAX DynamoDB is our latest integration, a transparent cache for DynamoDB. The caching layer dramatically increases the scalability of DynamoDB, especially when dealing with bursty traffic or hot keys. MAX DynamoDB supports HTTP.
Up next
Momento will continue to partner with our enterprise customers to make hyperscale infrastructure fast, efficient, and easy. We are investing heavily in streamlined BYOC deployment, as well as even tighter integration between MAX and data services like DynamoDB. We are also working with the Valkey team to open source additional tools and extensions. Stay tuned as we share more over the coming weeks!
